Babywearing Education is a passion of ours, and we are currently working on a number of different projects to bring babywearing support and information to a broad group of people.

Safe Space to Sleep

The safe space to sleep initiative was set up in July 2015 to send carriers to asylum seeker families living in detention and in the community in Australia. BEA believes that no babies should be held in detention and that giving the parents and caregivers a tool to help them hold their babies safe and close in the less than ideal environment that they are unable to change is the least that we can do. With the support of local communities and business a number of carriers are now on the way to families and more babies will be able to be held close, facilitating attachment and providing a space safe for the baby wherever the parents are living. More information can be seen here.

Australian Babywearing Conference

A major focus of BEA is the facilitation of a regular conference which brings together parents, educators, professionals, vendors, distributors and other interested parties to learn, teach and work together over 3 days. The conference expo is the largest market place in Australia for babywearing products. Working with fantastic volunteers we are able to bring together people from every major city in Australia as well as a number of people from smaller rural centres for conversations, sharing of information and support. To learn more about the next conference or to become involved please visit the conference website.

Classes and Workshops

We provide classes and workshops for people who would like to learn more about babywearing. Whether you are a parent interested in learning more so that you can better support your peers either through your local babywearing support group, or on your own, a health or allied health professional who works with new families and would like to be able to better support them in carrying their children, a retailer who sells product and needs to be able to show customers how to use them safely or are simply interested in the mechanics of using different carriers, the history of the modern babywearing industry and community, the research that supports the advice that is provided, we have something for you. Classes are held in Melbourne but we are may be able to offer a class elsewhere if there is enough interest. Please contact us if you are interested in hosting a class in your area.
